Digital Transformation: A Vision for Success | Pugh Computers
Author: Mark Price
We have spent the past few months getting to know Pugh Computers by exploring their rich 40-year history. We have also gained insights into how they have constantly evolved to keep providing the very latest and most innovative business solutions in what is a fast-paced and ever-changing technology industry. This week, we meet their technical team and discover what their vision is for the future, including blended working and learning in this era of digital transformation.
With millions of people all around the world recently having to work and learn from home, we have started to see this phrase appear more and more – blended working/learning. But what exactly does this mean? It simply refers to a mixture of office/classroom-based working/learning and remote working/learning (typically at home using a computing device). Where today’s advanced technology really makes a difference is by making the transition between the office/classroom and home environments seamless, i.e. they are blended.
While remote working and learning may be an effective quick fix during the current pandemic, Pugh see blended working and learning as an essential long-term vision in business and in education. Pugh are delivering solutions that use high-definition cameras and interactive smart boards to bring remote users and office/classroom-based users closer than ever before. Using cloud-based software to allow all users to collaborate on documents together in real time, no matter where in the world they are based. Using powerful but portable computing devices to allow users to set up their office anywhere they want.
Pugh’s vision is not about offering quick fix technology solutions. It is about much more than that. Instead, Pugh’s vision is to enable long-term business solutions. To bring people together into a blended environment where nobody feels excluded. An environment where everybody is given the opportunity to make themselves heard. An environment that gives businesses and educational organisations the platform to enable their users to be more productive and more creative than ever before.
With Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella recently revealing that “we’ve seen two years’ worth of digital transformation in two months”, it is clear that we are all navigating our way through a new era of digital transformation, and Pugh certainly have a vision for success!
Elfed Jenkins, IT Manager
I graduated from Aberystwyth University in 2006 with a degree in Internet Computing and joined Pugh soon after. I am now into my 15th year at Pugh and started my current role as IT Manager in 2013. Having been born and raised on a local dairy farm in Talsarn, I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to stay in Ceredigion to both study an honours degree and embark on a career in my chosen subject area.
Over the past six months, we have placed great emphasis on creating relationships and partnerships with new vendors, allowing us to increase our hardware, software and services portfolio. As well as existing partnerships with world-leading companies such as Microsoft and Adobe, we have recently partnered up with Yealink on the South East coast of China. In turn, these relationships give us a much greater set of products and expertise to package up into complete and tailored solutions for our customers.

Mark Price, Technology Strategist for Modern Workplace
I am one of Pugh’s newest recruits, having joined the team in 2018 after graduating with an honours degree in Computing & IT with the Open University in Wales. Pugh’s policy to recruit locally whenever possible has resulted in a team of local Welsh speakers, and as a Ceredigion-born Welsh speaker myself, this has helped me settle into my new role very easily.
My role has a particular emphasis on the modern workplace, covering areas such as Microsoft Teams, cloud solutions and blended working and learning. As early adopters ourselves, we have seen first-hand the advantages that these modern workplace solutions bring. It is now my aim to help make Pugh’s vision a reality by showcasing and delivering these solutions to our customers and supporting each of them in their own digital transformation.

The EGO® in “Aberystwyth & Aberaeron EGO®” stands for Economic Growth Opportunity and we believe that the magazine helps stimulate economic growth in both towns and their surrounding areas by encouraging people to spend their money locally. We also hope our name suggests that Aberystwyth and Aberaeron should have more of an ego and shout a lot louder about what they have to offer! At the EGO® we believe that Aberystwyth and Aberaeron punch well above their weight, and should be proud of doing so.
